Hungarian Jews residing in Yugoslavia and who have applied for citizenship will not be deported from the country in the mass deportation of Hungarian citizens now going on as a result of the strained relations between Yugoslavia and Hungary.
An assurance to this effect was given today by the Regency of Yugoslavia to a Jewish delegation. The delegation consisted of leaders of local B’nai B’rith lodges and representatives of the Council of the Federation of Jewish Communities.

During the audience the Jewish representatives were highly complimented by Dr. Stankovitch, one of the three Regents, for the patriotism of Yugoslavian Jewry. Dr. Stankovitch also assured them he will see that the government decides favorably the naturalizations of those Hungarian Jews who have been living in Yugoslavia for a long time and who have applied for Yugoslavian citizenship.
The assurance of the Regency comes as a relief to hundreds of Jewish families which were threatened with expulsion because of their Hungarian citizenship.
