The Administrative Council of the Zionist Organization of America today endorsed the launching of a $2,500,000 Z.O.A. food project for Israel. At the Council’s all-day session it was announced that American Jews will be called upon to donate food, particularly in the next three months, for shipment to the people of Israel.
In this connection, Dr. Emanuel Neumann, Z.O.A. president, stressed that while American Zionists are urged to give their utmost support to this project and to other projects authorized by the Z.O.A. preference is to be given to the United Jewish Appeal.
The National Executive Committee, which met proceeding the Administrative Council, heard an announcement of the formation of the “Israel Corporation of America,” a $25,000,000 corporation, by individual members and officers of the Z.O.A. The corporation is dedicated to furthering the economic up building of Israel through a vast program of housing and the promotion of essential industries.
The Council adopted a resolution expressing its shock at the Bernaaotte assassination and called for the swift apprehension of the criminals responsible for it. The American Government was called upon, in another resolution, to recognize its solemn pledges and bring “to fruition the contribution” it has made thus far in the establishment of Israel. If hostilities are resumed, the resolution said, it is hoped the U.S. will lift its arms embargo in Israel. A third resolution embodied an appeal calling on American Jewry to match the devotion and courage of the Israelis in Guaranteeing the existence “and future development of the Jewish state which is now beset by war, economic stress and immigration problems. The stand of the Z.0.A. and General Zionist delegates to the recent Actions Committee session in Tel Aviv calling for separation of function and personnel between the Zionist movement and the Israeli Government was endorsed by the Administrative Council.
Among the resolutions adopted by the Administrative Council was one calling for an expanded program of education for Zionist youth as a major function of the Z.O.A. in the future. It also recommended to the Zionist Youth Commission that it extend its sphere of operations beyond Zionist groups to all Jewish youth groups in the country. A youth conference to coordinate all Jewish youth activities in relation to Israel was also suggested. A 20 percent membership gain over last year was reported by executive director Dr. Sidney Marks, who said that 66 new districts have been established in the Z.O.A.

Asserting that “it is clear that the United States still holds the key t0 the situation in Israel,” he added “it is equally clear that the stand of the United States Government with regard to Israel is still as nebulous as it has been right along.” He said granting a loan to Israel would convince the Arabs that the U.S. is “very earnest and serious in its intention of backing the state of Israel and that their intransigence will yield them nothing.” (As the Bulletin of Israel and that their intransigence will yield them nothing.” (As the Bulletin went to press, the scheduled addresses of Dr. Emanuel Neumann, Dr. Israel Goldstein and others had not yet been made.)
