Criticism against the administrative committee of the Zionist Organization of America for giving “all-out support” to the General Zionists in Israel was voiced at a press conference here today by Jacob M. Alkow, newly-elected president of the Southern Pacific Region of the Z.O.A. He said that Israel needs a Zionist Organization “that will serve as an objective, friendly and sympathetic emmisary” for the entire Jewish state and its people and not for any part of it.
The General Zionists of Israel have a political program that is based on economic consideration that the vast majority of American Zionists neither support nor understand, Mr. Alkow said. “I regard the raising of a ‘war chest’ to oust the Ben Gurion Government with the presumable ‘knowledge and support’ of our official American Zionist leadership as most regrettable. This is something that the Z.O.A. convention in Atlantic City must rectify,” he added.
