A nationwide drive to enroll 100,000 new members in the Zionist Organization of America during the next six weeks was announced here tonight by Daniel Frisch, president of the Z.O.A. addressing a public reception in honor of three visiting Israel General Zionist leaders.
Mr. Frisch asserted that “American Jews are an integral part of the American community—for them the establishment of Israel represents the realization of the historic aspirations of the Jewish people.” It should be clear, he continued, that their “political allegiance is in nowise affected by the emergence of Israel. The bogey of dual allegiance conjured up by some who should know better is just pure invention.”
The Z.O.A. president noted that “it is important to point out in this connection that such political separation does not imply any severance of the close cultural, religious and sentimental bonds existing between the American Jewish community and the Jewish community of Israel.” He also called on former Governor Herbert H. Lehman and John Foster Dulles, candidates in New York State for U.S. Senator, to “record publicly their stand on the Jerusalem issue and urge the U.S. Government to repudiate the unjust and impractical plan of the U.N. Conciliation Commission to sever Jerusalem from Israel.”
