The French High Commissioner in Syria is definitely opposed to the idea of granting concessions in the Alomax Valley to Zionists, it is reported today in the Arab press.
While inviting Jews to settle in Syria, the French authorities here would not like those Jews to be adherents of Zionism. The concession for settling Jews in the Alomax Valley will therefore be granted only after a thorough investigation. The companies applying for the concession may be Jewish but not in any way connected with Zionist institutions.
A Jewish company has already applied to the Syrian authorities for a concession to settle Jews in the Alomax Valley. This application is now under consideration. Arab leaders in Syria, with the exception of the extremists, would welcome the settlement of Jews in Syria although they object to having them settle in the districts neighboring Palestine.
