David Schapira, a Zionist, was elected today president of the Jewish Community Council here by a vote of 13 to 11. An attorney, and blind since World War I, Schapira spent three years in a Nazi concentration camp. He succeeds David Brill.
Eight members of the Zionist Federation and five Socialists supported his candidacy. Josef Pittmann, a Zionist, and Email Maurer, a Socialist, were elected vice-presidents. The executive committee of the Council is composed of five Zionists and three Socialists.
