Harry Batshaw, a Jewish communal leader in Canada, has been appointed Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec. Justice Batshaw is president of the eastern division of the Zionist Organization of Canada, president of the Canadian Young Judea, and a leading member of the Canadian Jewish Congress.
The appointment marks the first time that a Jew has been named to a higher court in Canada. Mr. Batshaw has, in recent years, been assigned to act for the Ministry of Justice as a special attorney for the Department of National Revenue, the National Harbors Board and the Foreign Exchange Control Board.
