The Zionist movement was re-established in Germany today with the formal organization of a new Zionist federation and the election of a three-man executive and a 17-member national board at a conference of German Jewish leaders here. The new federation has the support of the World Zionist Organization and will be affiliated with the WZO.
Shekolim will be sold by the German Zionist Organization and on that basis it will be able to send delegates to the forthcoming World Zionist Congress. A fundraising program to be launched among Germany’s 25,000 Jews was outlined for the assembled leaders by Sam Segal, European director of the Keren Hayesod.
Dr. Chaim Yachil, now deputy head of the Israel purchasing mission in Cologne and former head of the Jewish Agency office in Munich and one-time Israel consul in Munich, was the chief speaker at the conference. Dr. Yachil reviewed the contributions of German Jewry to Zionism and the course of Zionism in Germany in recent years. He noted that since it has become obvious that the continued existence of a Jewish community in Germany is a fact, it had been resolved among the Zionist leadership that this community should have the same rights and duties as Jewish collectivities elsewhere.
