The highest U. S. Treasury citation “for distinguished services rendered in behalf of the War Finance Program” was awarded yesterday to the Zionist Organization of America at a special ceremony held in the national Zionist headquarters here, with outstanding Zionist leaders in attendance.
A total of $65,000,000 in War Bonds within one month of its current campaign was raised by the Zionist Organization of America, which is claimed to be the largest sum raised by any single Jewish organization in the country for a similar period. The presentation of the award was made by Mr. William C. FitzGibbon, special assistant to the U. S. Secretary of the Treasury. Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the ZOA, in accepting the award announced that 12,000 members of the organization are serving in the U. S. armed forces, adding that ” there is no part of the war effort in which American Zionists have not participated to the fullest of their ability.”
