Labor Zionist attacks against him are “just a pretext,” Andre Blumel, president of the French Zionist Federation, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here today. He is being attacked for having attended a Communist-sponsored public celebration of the centennary of the birth of Sholem Aleichem, and not attending a similar celebration held by Zionist groups.
The Labor Zionist attacks, he stated, are “purely political,” M. Blumel implied that the attacks are motivated by a Labor Zionist desire to take over the Federation presidency. “If the Federation adopts any kind of censure motion against the now,” he stated, “I will, of course, resign.” The Labor Zionist complaint against M. Blumel is to be debated at a meeting of the Federation scheduled for April 15.
