The World Zionist Congress will open in Carlsbad August 6, it is announced. There has been considerable speculation among Zionists as to the seat of the Congress, Basle, Switzerland, and the Free City of Danzig having been frequently mentioned.
Vienna, which was also considered, was rejected because of the hostility prevailing in the Austrian capital against Jews. Basle, where the first and several subsequent Zionist Congresses were held, was eliminated, it is understood, because of the high rate of exchange, and Danzig lost out for the same reason as Vienna.
