A sixty-day period, comprising the Hebrew months of Elul and Tishre, which compose the High Holiday season in the Jewish calendar, has been set aside for a renewed effort in behalf of the Jewish National Fund within the metropolitan area, it was announced yesterday. The period begins August 12, the first day of the Hebrew month of Elul and ends on the last day of Tishre, which falls on October 12.

A unanimous decision to this effect was adopted at the midsummer conference held last week at the Hotel Imperial, attended by 150 delegates representing more than 100 committees and groups affiliated with all branches of the Zionist movement. The session was held under the auspices of the Jewish National Fund Council of Greater New York. Leo Wolfson presided. Reports and addresses on the importance of intensifying the activities for the Zionist Land Fund were made by Samuel Fishman, Morris Zeldin and Rabbi Henry A. Schorr, Chairman of the Bronx Jewish National Fund Council.

A feature of the session was the award, by drawing of lots, of a free round trip to Palestine to Miss Shulamith Soloveitchik, a student at the College of the City of New York, the daughter of Rabbi Moses Soloveitchik, Dean of the Talmudic Faculty of the Yeshivah College. She is the granddaughter of Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik, a great Talmudic authority. Miss Soloveitchik won the trip because she was among the group of Jewish National Fund volunteers who distinguished themselves in a recent fund-raising activity for the benefit of the Fund.

The drive will take the form of popular collections by Zionist volunteers, decorated with Blue-White caps, at the gates and entrances to Jewish cemeteries during the month of Elul when many visitors come to pay homage to the dead, in accordance with ancient Jewish tradition. Cooperation of the cemetery associations to facilitate the collection has been secured. The distribution of Blue-White stamps to be affixed on synagogue admission cards during the High Holiday season will also be undertaken by the volunteer corps.

Plans for a Jewish National Fund concert in Carnegie Hall and a city-wide bazaar some time during the winter, have also been approved. A report covering the income of the Jewish National Fund in New York for the first six vealed that New York Jews contributed $26,000, an increase of approximately $7,000 as compared with the figures for the corresponding period the previous year months of the current year, submitted by Herman Quittman, re-
