A Jewish businessmen was killed Wednesday night in northern Moscow.

A representative of the Moscow prosecutor’s office told JTA that Yuri Naumenko, 40, was returning to his apartment with his wife at half past midnight. An unidentified gunman shot Naumenko outside his apartment door, killing him instantly. The prosecutor suggested the killing could be connected to Naumenko's business activity.

Yuri Naumenko was a dual Israeli and Russian national. He ran a real estate development business.

The Moscow police officer heading the investigation told JTA, on condition of anonymity, that Naumenko had a stake in a privately owned company called Moscow City Property Department. According to the source, Naumenko left the company in May allegedly because of a conflict with his partners. The same source suggested that the company might be controlled by members of a security service.

A spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Moscow, Alex Goldman-Shaiman, told JTA that Naumenko left Israel in 2001.
