Resolution marks Israeli independence
A U.S. Senate resolution celebrating Israel’s 59th Independence Day is expected to pass unanimously. Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) introduced the resolution. “Israel is a steadfast strategic ally of the United States,” Mikulski said Thursday. “I stand proudly with unabashed and unwavering support for Israel. I will always fight for its survival and viability.” In addition to praising the creation of the Jewish state, the resolution commends U.S.-Israel cooperation in defense, diplomacy and homeland security. It also commends the bipartisan support for Israel in the United States.
