German store touts kosher food
In a first, a major German department store chain will hold an Israel Week featuring food products from the Jewish state.
The sale at Kaufhof from Aug. 14 to 25 is sponsored by the Israeli Institute for Export and Cooperation and will feature Israeli foods from 40 companies, ranging from pickles and olive oils to gourmet food and ethnic specialties. The sale will take place in 28 branches of the Kaufhof department stores in Berlin, Hannover, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Leipzig and Munich.
The Kaufhof chain has printed 750,000 copies of a 16-page brochure to accompany the sale.
In an Aug. 7 letter, the German-Israeli Society urged supporters to get out and shop so the store would be convinced to stock the products year round.
