PrintIsraeli, Palestinian win Monaco scholarship
Prince Albert II of Monaco awarded a joint scholarship for environmental research to an Israeli and a Palestinian.
Eitan Amiel and Lina Ismail, alumni of the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies located in Kibbutz Ketura north of Eilat, received a joint scholarship of nearly $35,000 from the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
The students, who are among the first scholarship recipients of the foundation, were guests of the prince last week.
“It is important that countries of the Middle East cooperate in protecting the environment,” Prince Albert said during a meeting with members of the Arava Institute.
The meeting was held during a three-day visit to Monaco by members of the Arava Institute, which works to develop environmental leadership in the Middle East by emphasizing cooperation between Israel and its neighbors. The prince also met with figures from academia, business and government.
The students presented current issues and challenges in the field of environmental protection in the Middle East and spoke in detail about their joint period of study at the Arava Institute. Students from Israel, Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, North America and others study there.
