PrintIsrael reopens, closes Gaza crossing
Israel reopened a crossing into the Gaza Strip, then closed it a day later.
About 20 truckloads of food entered Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing on Monday at the southern border between Israel and the strip, Israeli and Palestinian officials were quoted as saying. More were scheduled to pass through on Tuesday. The deliveries were a trial run before the crossing was fully opened, according to officials
Opening the crossing is part of a cease-fire deal between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers brokered by Egypt.
But Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered all commercial closings between Israel and Gaza closed after a Kassam rocket fired from Gaza landed in southern Israel near Sderot late Tuesday. MInistry officials said the crossings would be closed for at least 24 hours.
Israel shut down Kerem Shalom in April after a Hamas suicide bomber destroyed the facility.
