Livni: Israeli Arabs can move to Palestine
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Israeli Arabs' "national solution" is in a Palestinian state, Tzipi Livni said.
"When the Palestinian state is created, I will be able to go to Palestinian citizens -- who we call Israeli Arabs -- and say to them: You are residents with equal rights, but your national solution is in another place," Israel's foreign minister told students at a Tel Aviv high school, according to Israeli media reports.
Her statements raised the ire of Israeli-Arab lawmakers.
"The roots of the Israeli Arab citizens of Israel were planted before the state was established," Culture, Sports and Science Minister Ghaleb Majadele said, according to Israel's daily Ha'aretz. "They are residents of this country with rights; their residency and citizenship are not open for negotiation."
