U.S. sending badminton team to Iran
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The United States is sending a team to a women's badminton tournament in Iran.
A delegation of 12 Americans, including eight athletes, coaches and managers, will participate in the Fajr International Badminton Tournament Feb. 5-8 at the invitation of the Iranian Badminton Federation, the U.S. State Department said.
The delegation is part of "people-to-people" outreach launched by the Bush administration and aimed at cultivating support even as tensions simmer between the two governments over Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program.
