PrintNew Knesset members to annul foreign passports
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Three incoming Knesset members with dual citizenship have been ordered to renounce their foreign passports.
The Central Elections Committee ordered the lawmakers to annul their non-Israeli passports by their swearing in next Tuesday or to at least start taking steps to annul them, Ha'aretz reported Wednesday.
Israel's Basic Law on the Knesset requires that "a member of Knesset holding an additional citizenship that is not Israeli ... will not take the oath of loyalty until he has done everything he can to relinquish it."
The three Knesset members are Yohanan Plesner of Kadima, who also has Danish citizenship; Nitzan Horowitz of Meretz, who also has Polish citizenship; and Anastasia Michaeli of Yisrael Beiteinu, who also has Russian citizenship.
