PrintIndian-American leaders visit Israel
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Indian-American leaders are visiting Israel to learn more about Israel's relations with India.
The high-profile delegation's trip this week is under the auspices of Project Interchange, an institute of the American Jewish Committee.
Members of the delegation include leaders of the Indian-American community, doctors, the deputy treasurer of the State of Illinois and businesspeople.
"The relationship between Israel and India goes back to the birth of these two countries," said Ida Singelenberg, the U.S. program director of Project Interchange. "Our aim is to help highlight this valuable relationship to the Indian-American community who have made enormous contributions already in America.”
The visitors will learn about Israeli-initiated humanitarian efforts such as Israel’s work in disaster management and the free life-giving operations its doctors offer through the Save a Child’s Heart Foundation. The group is also scheduled to visit the Weizmann Institute to learn about its work with the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research in India.
The delegation also was to meet with the Israel-India Chamber of Commerce and the Israel-India Friendship Association.
