PrintEx-AMIA attack prosecutor says he was kidnapped
BUENOS AIRES (JTA) -- A former prosecutor of the terrorist attack on Argentina's AMIA Jewish community center said he was kidnapped and tortured.
Claudio Lifschitz, whose accusations in front of the Argentine Congress of alleged irregularities in the probe eventually led to its collapse, said he was kidnapped Saturday morning in Buenos Aires. His captors cut and burned the word AMIA on his back and the six-digit case number on his arm, according to Lifschitz.
On Thursday, Lifschitz added a new accusation before the judge on the case against an Intelligence Service official and other former government officials.
Lifschitz was part of Judge Juan Jose Galeano’s investigation team. His statements were taken into consideration during the three years of oral testimony against local people accused of involvement in the case.
According to Lifschitz, the kidnappers said they belonged to the Argentine intelligence agency.
Eighty-five people were killed and more than 200 wounded in July 1994 when the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires was bombed, allegedly with involvement by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, destroying the seven-floor building.
