PrintOlmert cleared in home-buying scandal
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Ehud Olmert has been cleared by police in one of the corruption investigations against him.
The Israel Police National Fraud Unit on Thursday said there was insufficient evidence to charge the outgoing prime minister in a corruption scandal involving a home Olmert purchased in Jerusalem for far below market value, according to news reports.
Olmert has been under investigation in the Cremieux Street Affair for the last three years. He was suspected of giving favors to the company that built the home in exchange for the lower purchase price. Olmert denies any wrongdoing. Attorney General Menachem Mazuz must still make a final decision to close the case.
Police have recommended that Olmert be indicted in two other corruption scandals.
