Olmert to have cancer surgery in U.S.
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Israel's former prime minister will undergo cancer surgery in the United States.
The former Israeli prime minister will have a tumor removed from his prostate in the coming weeks, according to a statement from his office, Ynet reported.
The statement said Olmert decided to have the surgery in an undisclosed hospital in the United States because he prefers the method of surgery he has been offered there.
Olmert went public with his cancer in October 2007. Tests conducted in mid-April show that the cancer has worsened significantly since its diagnosis.
A hearing in one of the corruption affairs against Olmert was postponed recently until at least May 10 in order to allow Olmert to complete medical tests.
Meanwhile, Ha'aretz reported Thursday that Olmert opened his own consulting firm last month, one week after leaving office.
