PrintObama to meet Saudi king
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- President Obama will meet with Saudi King Abdullah next week in Riyadh.
The White House announced that the June 3 visit to Saudi Arabia would be added to the president's previously scheduled trip next week to Egypt, France and Germany. Fulfilling a campaign pledge, Obama will be giving a major speech to the Muslim world on June 4 in Cairo.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that the president will "discuss a range of important issues, including Middle East peace, Iran and terrorism" with the Saudi king.
"The president believes it's a chance to discuss a lot of important business and he thought it was a good opportunity to do that," said Gibbs, who added that while Obama is likely to discuss "elements of how to bring about peace in the Middle East" in his Cairo speech, it is "not intended to lay out some detailed map for how one gets to that."
