Jewish gunman kills Arab in Jerusalem
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- A Jewish gunman opened fire in central Jerusalem, killing an Arab man.
The gunman also wounded a Jewish bystander in the early Monday morning attacks.
The man, who police say may have psychological problems, said he felt threatened by the Arab victim, who approached him while he was meditating in a public square near the Jaffa Gate at about 3 a.m. He shot the Jewish man in another part of the city when the victim asked him for a cigarette, according to reports.
The gunman said he attempted to shoot a third person, who apparently escaped unharmed.
The pistol was licensed to the gunman, a 48-year-old resident of Ashdod, the Jerusalem Post reported.
