Katsav trial to be closed

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Former Israeli President Moshe Katsav's trial will be closed.

The Tel Aviv District Court made its decision to close the trial Tuesday, according to reports.

Katsav is charged with rape, indecent acts and sexual harassment against several former female employees. The trial is set to begin in September.

On Sunday, the court rejected a request from Katsav's attorneys to be removed from the case, since the trial is scheduled to run four days a week and will preclude them from having other clients. The attorneys on Tuesday appealed the decision to the Supreme Court.
