Gantz to be new IDF deputy chief of staff
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The IDF military attache in Washington has been named the Israeli Defense Forces' new deputy chief of staff.
Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz was appointed to the position on Friday. He will replace Maj.-Gen. Dan Harel.
Media reports said the choice of Gantz was a compromise between Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi, each of whom had supported different candidates for the job and had spent several weeks discussing it.
