Israeli film takes top prize in Venice

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- An Israeli film that tells the story of Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 1982 won the highest award at the Venice Film Festival.

"Lebanon," an anti-war film directed by Samuel Maoz, took the Golden Lion prize Saturday at the festival.

It marked the first time an Israeli film has taken the top prize at the festival.

The movie, based on Maoz's experiences fighting in the Lebanon War, shows the first day of the conflict through the eyes of Israeli soldiers sitting in a tank in enemy territory.
