Vandals desecrate Jewish gravestones in Russia
(JTA) -- Vandals desecrated Jewish gravestones in a Russian cemetery for the third time this year.
Some 60 gravestones were damaged in the Jewish section of the Dmitrovo-Cherkasskoe cemetery in the Tver region, according to a report Sept. 24 on the news Web site Gazeta.ru, reported the UCSJ: Union of Councils for Jews in the Former Soviet Union.
In July, 60 gravestones were vandalized; 21 had been vandalized in April.
The mayor of Tver said the police have no suspects and that "impunity in many ways inspires new acts of vandalism," according to UCSJ.
It is unclear from the report if police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
