Iraq vet saves rabbi’s wife at Yankee Stadium
(JTA) -- An Iraq war veteran saved the life of a prominent rabbi's wife at Yankee Stadium.
Toby Weiss, wife of Rabbi Avi Weiss of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale in New York City, was choking on food Wednesday in the section behind home plate, the New York Daily News reported.
John Stone of Connecticut, a U.S. Army medic, performed the Heimlich maneuver as the rabbi's wife began turning blue, the newspaper reported. Other fans had tried to help Weiss but failed.
Stone was visiting the stadium with his brother, who was on leave from duty in Afghanistan. The Stone brothers were moved to the best seats in the stadium and given gift bags.
