Israel kills Gaza terrorist in targeted attack
JERUSALEM (JTA) -- A senior Gaza terrorist who was planning to kidnap Israelis vacationing in the Sinai was killed in an Israeli military operation.
Islam Yasin, who was heavily involved in planning and directing terror attacks against Israelis, was killed Wednesday afternoon in a joint Israel Defense Forces-Shin Bet security services operation.
Yasin and his brother Mohammed were killed when the Israeli Air Force attacked his car in Gaza City.
Yasin was a senior operative in the Army of Islam terror organization and an assistant close to the head of the terrorist group, Mamtaz Durmush. Most recently, Yasin had been personally involved in planning and directing a terror attack in which Israelis would be kidnapped from the Sinai Peninsula, the IDF said.
Yasin worked closely with Muhammad Namnam, who was killed Nov. 3 in a similar operation.
