Web list accuses Israelis of war crimes
(JTA) -- A list of 200 Israelis accused of war crimes with many of their purported addresses is circulating on the Internet.
The list reportedly originates in Britain, but otherwise is of unknown provenance. The list has appeared under multiple URLs; a number of web hosts have removed it.
Claiming to be "an act of retribution and affront," the list features the positions of command of the "direct perpetrators" of war crimes during the 2009 Gaza war.
A few appearing on the list are senior Israeli army commanders and appear in uniform. Many are lower ranked -- some as low as sergeant -- and appear in civilian clothing. The photos apparently were lifted from social networking sites.
Ha'aretz last Friday said the list has many inaccuracies and that some of those listed never were engaged in the fighting.
