PrintAIPAC apologizes for solicitation that cites terror attack
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- AIPAC apologized for a fundraising e-mail that cited a terrorist attack that had occurred just hours before the e-mail blast.
"Today, you received an email from us about the dangers facing Israel right now and ways in which you can help ensure American support for Israel at a difficult and dangerous time," said an e-mail Wednesday evening from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee to its followers. "We included information about the horrific bombing in Jerusalem. In hindsight, it was wrong of us to mention this terrible tragedy the same day it occurred in the context of this email. We are deeply sorry. We express our sympathies to all those impacted by today’s events and extend our heartfelt apologies to you."
The earlier solicitation had listed Wednesday's Jerusalem bus station bombing, which killed one woman and wounded dozens, among a recent spate of attacks that "reminds why it is so important that we work to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship and help keep our ally Israel safe and secure."
It asked for donations of "50, $100, $250 or more."
