Congressional roundup: Three new Jews, but no rabbi

The U.S. House of Representatives is getting three new Jewish members, but Tuesday night's Democratic tide was not strong enough to sink several favorites of Jewish GOPers or to send Congress its first rabbi, Jewish Latina or Chinese Jew.

Don’t forget that the 3rd District in New Jersey also includes not only Burlington and Ocean counties, but also the Camden County community of Cherry Hill, home town of Senator Adler. As a JTA reader on lunch breaks, I also want to point that Senator Adler has a rich record of achievement in the New Jersey Senate where he serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He apparently is the first Democrat elected to that congressional district in 126 years. His election also is significant in that he had to overcome two entrenched Republican political machines in Ocean and Burlington counties as well as awful television ads from that misnamed Freedom’s Watch 527 group.
