JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Israeli army has arrested a suspect in Sunday’s West Bank shooting that injured seven, including a pregnant woman whose surgically delivered baby died.
Citing security services, The Times of Israel reported that the suspect, a taxi driver, was arrested along with two others in his car following a shootout in the town of Surda, near Ramallah.
In the terror attack, Palestinian gunmen opened fire from a vehicle while driving past a bus stop on the road outside the Ofra settlement. Among those wounded were Shira Ish-Ran, a 21-year old newlywed who was pregnant with her first child, her husband and two teenage girls..
The baby, who was delivered by cesarean section at 30 weeks gestation to save the mother’s life, died Wednesday evening.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Education Minister Naftali Bennett were among those who took to Twitter to express their condolences to the Ish-Rans and express their rage toward the killers.
