JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian man attempted to stab policemen in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The man ran toward a group of police officers near Lion’s Gate on Saturday morning brandishing a knife. He was shot dead, the Israel Police said in a statement.

Police posted on social media a video of the man running with the knife in his hand. He was identified by the Palestinian WAFA news website as Maher Ibrahim Zaatra, 33, a father of three children from the Jabal al-Mukabber neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem.

A female bystander, also a resident of eastern Jerusalem, was injured in the leg by a bullet shot by police.

The attempted attack came a day after a Palestinian woman attempted to stab Israelis at the Armon Hanatziv promenade, lightly injuring one man.
