(JTA) — Rep. Jerry Nadler, one of seven House members serving as managers in President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, will miss the end of the proceedings to be with his wife, who has pancreatic cancer.
“I am sorry to not be able to stay in Washington for the conclusion of the Senate impeachment trial but I need to be home with my wife at this time. We have many decisions to make as a family. I have every faith in my colleagues and hope the Senate will do what is right,” Nadler, D- N.Y., tweeted on Friday.
Nadler’s wife, Joyce Miller, 72, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December and has already undergone surgery.
Nadler missed one day of the Senate trial, on Jan. 27, to be with his wife, but returned for the rest of the week.
Final arguments in the Senate trial will begin late Monday morning and may last up to four hours. The Senate is expected to vote on the two articles of impeachment late on Wednesday afternoon.
