Posted in: Marine Le Pen not her father
She's not her father, but her father and his Antisemitic buddies still play major roles in the party she represents. Why is it so difficult for some intelligent, concerned people to draw the obvious conclusion and not get suckered into supporting these supposedly "reformed" far right parties?

Edwards claims "It is disturbing to me that my clearly defined position regarding a two-state solution was questioned so quickly and intensely simply because I agreed to speak before a group of my constituents about these issues, not all of whom share the entirety of my views, nor I theirs. " But the press described this event as a fundraiser for the group and if that's true she's doing more than simply agreeing to speak to her constituents.

Dennis lives in a fantasy world if he thinks NYC high schools generally had rifle ranges. The clubs went to ranges to shoot but didn't have their own. And the club members used guns belonging to the ranges and kept there. They didn't own the guns and they certainly didn't carry them in the streets. Dennis must be a Texan or such like to imagine this--or way too young to know what life was like in the 1950s and 60s
Posted in: Bagel brawl: N.Y. vs. Montreal
As an ex NYer and former resident of the border region near Montreal I can tell Amnon that he has this backwards. Montreal bagels are too hard and too sweet, they are suitable only for feeding birds.

If Gessen wants to be a historian she should learn a bit more history. She says the museum in Birobizhan ignores the "nearby" Japanese front in WWII as if that were a problem. Given that the USSR and Japan remained at peace until the Soviet declaration of war in the summer of 1945, just before the Japanese surrender, it is hardly surprising that it gets no attention as opposed to the German war that cost the USSR 27 million dead. We could uses a good history of Birobidzhan, but that really requires a good knowledge of Soviet history as a background and this comment by Gessen doesn't inspire confidence.

Meatball, Mordechai wasn't head of state and Achiminidjad isn't Jewish (and never was).
Posted in: Honduras, Chavez and Ahmadinejad
A non-Jewish friend who lived in Honduras for two years tells me that Antisemitism was in fact very widespread there--all across the political spectrum. But even more problematic is that the source for the alleged quote that underlies this whole story is the regime that overthrew Zelaya and which is desperate to smear him in order to undermine support for his return to office. Why are JTA and others so willing to take his enemies claims on this?
Posted in: Zelaya supporter defends Holocaust
This is terrible if true, but this article only mentions the source briefly and it turns out the source is the regime that overthrew Zelaya and which hates him and his supporters. Without corroboration I remain very suspicious of such a claim
Posted in: EU official: Israel hijacked Russian ship
This is in an old Estonian tradition of Antisemitism, he probably believes the Mossad was responsible for 9-11 too

Or maybe Prokhorov is just cooperating with Putin by providing him with a safe alternative for disaffected voters--as opposed to real opposition groups.
