Though I never saw him do it, I could believe Ami dunking.

As for others, Eric Gingold could dunk. He famously could not upon enrolling at Williams but did later in his career. David Bluthenthal became mostly an outside player but in college he spent a lot more time in the lane and I'm sure threw down a few--don't have youtube at work so I can't find any clips. I saw Shahar Gordon dunk. He was a 6-10 Israeli who played for Ben Braun at Cal.

Someone who orders bagels at Starbucks while on the UWS has no right to complain. With so many high quality bagel joints in the hood, getting those "roles with holes" is a bigger sin than the insistence on topping inclusion.

Jules,

Yes, Tony Curtis was one of the major funders of the holocaust memorial and also the reconstruction of the synagogue.

From an interview of Curtis: "'My father used to go to Budapest as he lived in a small city. And he used to go to the Dohany Synagogue...So one day I went to see it and it was in disrepair. So I asked: Can I help? And they said: yes,' recalled Curtis, who also paints and write novels."

Comment to Those young Florida Jews

"In 2008, the Census Bureau recorded that Florida’s Members of the Tribe make up 3.6% of the US Jewish population."

3.6% of the US Jewish population, not the US population. That means that Florida has about 3.6% of 6.5M, which is about 235,000. However, that's much lower than most estimates that put the Jewish population in Florida at over 600,000, which would be almost 10% of the US Jewish population. Either way, more evidence that this article was poorly written and researched.

Carol,

The loss of the publication is sad, but the loss of the organization in general is much more depressing. I am biased--I worked for JFL in its embryonic days--but JFL was really a revolutionary business and model in the Jewish world. RIP, JFL. I am forever indebted to you and your wonderful leadership.

This is puzzling to me.

Mejia comes from a family of crypto-Jews, as I recall, and his story has been covered by a number of outlets. Vinas is Jewish by birth and sephardic, and his story has also been covered. His story seems to highlight awfully slippery slope as many sephardim could arguably be considered "of color."

Stanton is notable since she's a woman, a convert, AND black. That's quite a combo, and to me, it's worth coverage.

It's a valid point but he falls short. Hungary presents perhaps the best microcosm as those from Budapest were more similar to their Western European counterparts and those from outer villages (in all directions, though obviously more famously to the northeast, including what was then Romania but had been Hungary before Trianon) had more in common with Holocaust victims from Poland and the USSR.
Snyder's cursory reference to Hungarian/Romanian victims misses this point.

Totally agree, Uri.

As I read his first article on the train a few weeks ago, all I could think was how much it reeked of poor journalism.

Though I readily identified the troublesome likely impact of such poor journalism, I was perhaps more offended by his apparent lack of research, weak interviewing skills and other journalistic shortcomings.
