Forty-two million dollars has been spent in the past seven years by the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies of New York City, for the maintaining of its 91 affilieated institutions, was announced yesterday by Arthur Lehman, President, in his annual report submitted at Temple Emanu-El. Other speakers were former Ambassador to England, John W. Davis, and Louis Marshall.

Mr. Lehman said that increasing support will have to come from the Jews of the Bronx and to some extent from those on the East Side, as both these thickly populated sections of the City contain many Jews in affluent circumstances who did not contribute.” He paid tribute to the workers in the organization and their seven years of intensive effort on behalf of the Federation and said that sufficient money had been obtained from the united efforts of the workers to add materially to the growth of others.

Mr. Marshall praised the work of the Federation. He suggested that the Brooklyn Federation and the Manhattan Federation be united. Mr. Marshall predicted that if the present Federation did not give more attention to the education of the youth ” in Jewish ethics,

history, morals and literature,” the way would be open for the establishment of a new Federation that would aim in that direction.

Former Ambassador Davis praised the Jews for taking care of their own charities and related the story of such a pledge exacted of a small band of Jewish refugees who landed in Manhattan Island for hundred sixty years ago when Manhattan Island was a Dutch Settlement, governed by Peter Stuygesant.

The following trustees were elected for the term ending 1927 Mrs. Sidney C. Borg, Manny Strauss, Percy S. Straus, Dr. H. G. Friedman, Judge William N. Cohen, Mark Human and Ludwig Vogelstein.
