The Court of Appeals today confirmed the acquittal of Lieutenant Hanke, who shot and killed the Jewish merchant, Linskier, on March 5.

The Polish army officer and the Jewish merchant were travelling in the same compartment of a train. When Hanke addressed several impolite remarks to Linskier, the Jewish merchant, resenting the remarks, expressed his astonishment of the Polish officer, who then took out his pistol and shot Linskier.

The Polish chauvinistic press declared Lieutenant Hanke a national hero who defended “the honor of the Polish Army.”
