The existence of the Jewish schools in Lithuania is menaced because of the lack of teachers. During the first years teachers who were not fully qualified were admitted to the schools in the hope that it would be possible later to find better successors.
It was expected that teachers would arrive from abroad, especially from Russia, but this hope has not been realized. The Government has forbidden the entry of foreign teachers into Lithuania. It has further aggravated the situation by ruling that all examinations must take place in the Lithuanian language. If a training school for the preparation of teachers is not opened immediately, the development of the Jewish school system in Lithuanian will be seriously impeded.
