Israel Zangwill, George Bernard Shaw and H. G. Wells sent messages of greeting to Emma Goldman, deported from the United States as an undesirable alien, at a banquet given in her honor last night.
Colonel Josiah Wedgwood, member of the Labor Government, was toastmaster. Bertrand Russel and Rebecca West spoke. Miss Goldman, in her address, denounced the Soviet Government, declaring that it is the “greatest counter-revolutionary government in the world.”
She also commented upon an alleged statement of the United States Immigration Commissioner that she has been debarred from the United States for ever. “Forever, is a long time”, she stated and claimed that the United States officials have approached her to return to America on certain terms. “However, if I ever go back to America, it will be on my own terms”, Emma Goldman declared.
