The synagogue at Buchau in Wurttemberg is reported to be the only Jewish place of worship in the world with a bell, which is rung to call its congregation to prayers. The bell, which was placed in the belfry in 1854, has inscribed on it in Hebrew the first verse of Psalm 122:-

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.”

The bell is rung a few minutes before every service.
