Sir Joynson Hicks, British Home Secretary and sponsor of the anti-alien movement, modified his tone in speaking in Parliament today on the proposed new alien registration.
“No new alien legislation is necessary at present”, he declared. “There is no need to establish boards before whom all aliens would appear on a given date and prove that their residence is not against the interests of British citizens. There is no stream of alien labor flowing into England at present. Should conditions change, however, I will not hesitate to introduce necessary legislation”, the Home Secretary stated.
