United States Consul Thanks Shang Hai Zionists for Tribute to Lodge

The death of Senator Lodge has evoked expressions of sympathy for the American nation and the family of the deceased by Shanghai Zionists, who recalled with gratitude the role which the Senator had played in securing the approval of the American Government for the Balfour Declaration, recognizing Palestine as the Jewish National Homeland. “Israel’s Messenger the official organ of the Shanghai Zionist Association, paid a warm tribute to Mr. Lodge. The was published in all the Shanghai dailies and evoked a letter of appreciation from the American Consul General, Mr. Edwin S. Cunningham, who wrote to Mr. N. E. B. Ezra, the Secretary of the Zionist Association and Editor of “Israel’s Messenger”, as follows:-

“Dear Mr. Ezra-Your very kind letter of November 12, regarding the death of Senator Lodge has been received. The tribute to his memory published in the China Press, has also been real with great interest and sincere appreciation. I will be a pleasure to transmit a copy of your letter to the State Department and to the family of Senator Lodge who, I feel sure, will be deeply touched at this mark of esteem in which he held.
