The amount of $100,000 was cabled by the Joint Distribution Committee for relief work in Poland, it was learned yesterday when the text of a cable of Felix M. Warburg to Dr. Bernard Kahn, European Director of the Joint Distribution Committee, was made public. Mr. Warburg’s cable read:
“Rrealizing the gravity of the situation of Polish Jewry, we are placing at your disposal $50,000 for palliative relief in Poland, including help for Passover, and $50,000 for child care and other activities in all other countries.”
This action was taken in response to a cable from Dr. Kahn which read: “My report on Poland is under way. Meanwhile, $100,000 for palliative relief in Poland, including Passover help, is needed immediately. In addition $25,000 needed immediately for child care in Poland and the same amount for child care in other countries. If this cannot be granted I shall have to close all offices until such time when needed funds become available.”
