Three Communist officials were sentenced to prison for terrorizing the Jewish population, in a trial which lasted twenty days.
The case was brought against Gutkin, president of the district Soviet in Luhin, Podol; Tchebetarioff, secretary of the Soviet, and Judge Sokolow. The three officials and a number of others were charged with bribery, corruption and terrorizing the population.
Gutkin was sentenced to nine years imprisonment, Tchebetarioff to five years and Sokolow to four and one half years. The other officials received sentences of from one to two years.
Tchebetarioff arrested the president of the Kehillah in Luhin and the Russian priest, without any reason. Judge Sokolow staged a false trial against them. Gutkin closed the Jewish cemetery and fined the poor heavily. One hundred and fifty witnesses testified against them.
