M. Maugras, French Consul in Jerusalem, was honored at a banquet here tendered by the Jewish community, on the occasion of his leaving his post here. It was declared that M. Leon Doire, French Consul General at Lisbon, will be appointed French Consul General in Jerusalem.

M. Lupo, director of the Alliance Israelite Universelle schools in Palestine, M. M. Ussishkin, head of the Jewish National Fund, Dr. David Yellin and others spoke, expressing the gratitude of the Jewish people toward France and praising the personality of M. Maugras and his ardent friendship for Zionism.

M. Maugras in his reply declared that France has not forgotten her obligations toward Palestine and that he admires the idealism of those who are working for the revival of Palestine. He will always be with them in spirit, he declared.

The gathering ended with acclamations of Vivela France!
